Unexpected Hues & A Giveaway!

Popping in to show you an unseasonal colour that I found myself in this week. Mustard yellow is not something that I'd generally expect myself to choose on a warm Spring evening, but I found myself wanting to pair the embellished collar & hue of the fabric with the wash of these jeans. This tunic is pretty dear to me, and I don't know why I don't wear it more often. Statement pieces that can stand on their own without too much fuss are my very favorite, and this one fits that bill perfectly.

The Blues

If you follow me on Instagram (user name dollparade, if you fancy) you would have seen that I bought a new to me bicycle over the weekend. Powder blue and equipped with a sweet little side basket, I decided to take it out for a spin in the sunshine - flats in tow. I ended up being in an array of blues that day, which is a nice switch out for basic black as we inch towards Summer.

Perfect Spring

Sunday was a perfect Spring day for me. I started with a brunch potluck (made up almost entirely of carbs & sugar.. oh my) and then offset that indulgence by riding my new bike through the trails on the waterfront, stopping to sip some coffee on a bench and say hello to all the little ones that were out and about. Met Kate for some photos and then ended the day with a movie & pizza (Beginners was amazing - a must, must watch!). All enjoyed in high temperatures that warranted the very first baring of legs. I hope that my gams haven't temporarily blinded you and that you have a nice start to your week.

It Girl - Feature in FASHION Magazine

In February I was contacted by FASHION Magazine about being a part of their monthly magazine feature, "It Girl". I was selected to be May's gal, and not only was I flattered by the reach out, but thrilled that this feature is making its way across Canada and focusing on ladies of all regions and not solely those within the larger cities. After a whirlwhind of interview questions, hair & makeup appointments, photographer & location scheduling, and tries at putting together the outfit, we ended up with this shoot. I was lucky enough to work with Kandise again (we worked together here), as she always makes me feel pretty & effortless. That and she laughs (very sincerely!) at my jokes - always a plus.

I had just watched the Dolce & Gabbana 2013 Fall/Winter runway show, and found myself awe inspired by the sharply rich florals, perfectly placed ornate head pieces, and form fitting silhouettes. Being on a budget, I put together something reminiscent of the runway that stayed ready-to-wear and representative of my day-to-day style. The ladies at FASHION Magazine wanted bright & fun florals with a twist, and being eager for Spring days, I was thrilled to put this look together for the feature.

When browsing the Glitter Guide I saw a post on 5 Things To Try This Weekend. One of them was already done for me, since I looked down and was wearing the exact same "weekend uniform", as it's often called. I'm not usually big on exact replications of a look, but this was oddly on the mark for my Sunday of breakfast, shopping for baby gifts, getting a haul of groceries, loads of photo editing, and catching up on some work with an enormous Canadiano (my favorite cafe's patriotic take on the Americano). What are your go-tos for the weekend?

Layered Basics

Sometimes it's a warm March evening, you're heading to the movies (where the temperature is always unpredictable), and you just have to keep it layered and basic. I am still mid season transition, so pulling out colors like this coral, but pairing it with a knit and a transitional jacket, is the perfect way to bring my wardrobe from Winter to Spring and Summer. I am just about living in this jean jacket lately, as it seems to throw itself over every outfit with ease. I always love those pieces the most. These shots are from a few days ago, and as you can see, there is some disgusting multi-colored snow in the background. We've had a major heat wave since then and I can promise you that it's almost all completely gone. Keeping my fingers tightly crossed. Happy weekend!

Day Mix

I have been quite literally dreaming of the day that I could cuff up my jeans & walk the streets in something other than boots, and though that day has come, I won't yet say it's to here to stay. You may remember two of these items from this post where I chronicled some of my Spring buys. I couldn't wait to get my feet into these bright mary janes, and I think that casual jeans, an embellished foot, and a fun type of blouse is going to be my biggest go-to this Spring & Summer.

I went to a get together on Saturday night that requested we dress in "beachy resort wear" type garb. Since I'm not really big on "theme" dressing, and since we are still transitioning between Winter and Spring, I decided to go with a cheeky tank top instead (saying "California"). It was decidedly gorgeous the next day, and I was decidedly starving, so my ladies and I went downtown for brunch, caffeine, and photo frolics. I put the same outfit back on because... well, don't we all sometimes? How was your weekend?
