The New Old

Tee: Roots / Jeans: Zara / Necklace, Clutch, Pin & Heels: Vintage / Sunnies: Le Chateau / Watch: Guess

This week the FASHION Canada Style Panel Challenge required us to give word on how you can break into vintage if it hasn't exactly been your "thing". I was kind of stoked about this topic, since, for me, vintage is pretty much my favorite accessory. These shoes are a darn good example. I picked them up for a 60's factory party in order to channel the ever-so stylish Edie Sedgwick (what a babe) (here's a snippet of my channel). But, guess what? I have been sort of defaulting to them ever since in order to spice up my otherwise fun but not FUN colbalt blue skinnies. Other go-to vintage items featured from within my closet included : a piece of gold neckware: such a wardrobe staple for me and usually found in great quality for an unbeatable price when bought second hand (this one was a gift from my brother - how amazing?), my (faux) croc. skin nude clutch: this has saved my life on so many occasions, and a rhinestone pin that goes with.. anything? Grabbing some bright nail polish & giving this little treasure a small makeover would also bring it from old to new pretty instantly, though, if you're me, you wouldn't risk that kind of endeavour.

Disclaimer: I kind of think there is a difference between "vintage" and "second hand", though I don't know how I'd go about defining it. Discuss!

Etsy defines vintage as 20 years old or older! I also just googled it and most people define vintage as 1920-1980's - when in doubt I'd just call it "thrifted" (ie: I got brogues at ReNeu once that turned out to be Forever21. Definitely not vintage, just thrifted) Either way, you looked super cute this day! xo.

This is such a great combination of new and old. I love how you kept it simple and then spiced up your look using the vintage pieces. I don't actually own that much vintage clothing but I am started to accumulate quite the amazing collection of vintage jewelry thanks to my grandma! You look so great and are such a great addition to the style panel! XO

Vintage does tend to be defined as 20 years or older. That is why pieces from the 90's are now considered "vintage". What I like is that most vintage stores are curated and then tend to have this specialness to them.

Everything newer is second hand or thifted.

Regardless the necklace and shoes are pretty fam-dam-tastic.
