Homestead Style: Kitchen

One of my very favorite online activities is visually perusing the places & spaces that different people call home. I get giddy for the Style At Home features on the Glitter Guide, and I am always actively adding to my Pinterest board. This said, I figured, why not share some of my own home on the blog, and why not make it an active but sporadical feature, which will in turn inspire me to change things up, re-arrange, and re-invent the space that I call home.

To be dead honest, I have never really felt as physically or emotionally at home in any other place like I do in my current flat, and I even contemplated buying the entire house (I still contemplate!). I live with a wonderful & lovely best pal of a roomate, and so, this is our shared space. Our home is always changing to suit both of our tastes (which, luckily enough, seem to mesh together quite well), so it's always feeling fun & interesting. I'd like to invite you into my humble! but homey, home.

Up first: The Kitchen.

Our kitchen isn't small and it isn't huge. We make the very most of the space, focusing on keeping our most used appliances & items out for easy use, storing away all others. I'm a bit of a clean freak (though I've gotten way more laid back over the years), so it's my preference to keep things mimimal. We have a few tiny pops of colour going on (hello orange cook books!), and we try to always have some flowers around for a bit of warmth.

The opposite side to our kitchen is small but functional, and it's one of my favorite little nooks in our place. This table is my roomate's, and it's a super beautiful antique wood. Above it are some prized photos that I was given, and usually hanging on a mismatched chair is one of my bags. I often get some evening work done in this little nook since it's both cozy and directly beside my bedroom.

I have never been a huge fan of huge cluttered fridges, but a few quirky little knick knacks & memories are a must. Here we have both mine & my roomate's baby pictures (I'm on the left holding a kitten ... typical), some funny notes, a few representative magnets (champagne bottle & weirdly illustrated cats + dogs), some wedding invitations, and photobooth photos from years past.

We have some pretty random decorative items throughout the house, and this is just one of them. A vintage saw. In the kitchen. Randomly. Above your head on a mantle. #safetyfirst

Another view of the kitchen. I only own a few cookbooks, and usually buy them pretty so that I can keep them displayed. We're missing the blue bowl that usually sits on the right hand side of the top shelf in the cupboard, but it was probably in the dishwasher. Oops.

One of my favorite parts of our kitchen is the antique chandelier that was here when we came. It's in such wonderful condition & plays off the otherwise modern kitchen so well.

An imperatively important part of the house: Pip's watering hole & food dish. She's a bit of a piglet, so these are always kept full.

The end! I hope that you enjoyed this quick tour of a small little kitchen & that you will be back when I tour you the rest of my pad.

x, Kristin.

Oh yay, I've been so excited to see your space since your last tweet!! I too live for this kind of stuff, and the glitter guide is a constant source of inspiration for me too. Your kitchen is SO lovely. I adore the white and all of the touches + your hardwood & extra large moldings are beautiful. Yeah, can't wait to see the rest!! :)
